why do the economists rage and the talking heads throw up their hands in panic?
people spend their entire lives going their own way and then wonder why god cannot be found in their hour of despair. “why has god forsaken me,” they cry, ” when i tucked in my love gift just like the televangelist said?”
god is in control. whether the dow falls to 4000 or gold rises to 4000, god is in control. god made gold, and i’m pretty sure he understands macroeconomics.
to the passionate christ-follower, god makes this promise: “your environment–good or bad–does not influence my plan for your life. keep your focus on my son and i will make you successful beyond human comprehension. you might be laid-off, cheated, or even killed but no evil will visit your doorstep. i am your god. you’ve nothing to worry about.”
look, god is either god, or he’s not. he is worthy of worship, or he’s not. what do feelings have to do with it? what do circumstances have to do with it?
let’s rise up as one, christ-followers, and proclaim the goodness of our god. the nations are crying out for a demonstration of god’s power, and our time has arrived. as we begin to come together, love each other unconditionally, and reach out to the hurting in jesus’ name, no one will be able to deny the reality of jesus’ love. god’s power will not be found in massive buildings and television networks. god’s power always has and always will be found in a touch–the touch of one surrendered to his sovereignty.
money gone? 401k depleted? praise the lord! he is worthy of worship, or he’s not.

God wants us to thrive in this environment. Thrive in the sense of being filled with joy and happiness even when things really suck. We need to quit trying to get God to get us out of hard times and instead ask God to help us prosper during the hard times. This is an act of stewardship and stewardship is the foundation of our faith.
Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.
No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
God told us to have no idols before him. Jesus said you can’t serve God and money. Surely, we knew that God was going to eventually separate the goats and the sheep.
See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.
And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN.”
This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
God is calling us all to repentance for making our comfort and money our god and the focus of our existence.
